Another useful information I got from the webinar is that there are some practical tips for increasing listening practice time. And I agree with the statement which stated that "it is important to have the students “do nothing but listen.” The teacher can, of course, keep teaching vocabulary, writing, reading, and speaking. But don’t let those activities steal from the listening portion of class". after all, the webinar topic is very useful for me as a future English teacher. Thanks to Mr Rudi Hartono who introduced me to the webinar.

I think it is a good presentation from webinar. It gave many tips in teaching listening. I think the most interesting tips that when we are teaching listening or giving listening practice to our students , don’t be afraid of looping or repeating or even stopping the audio to be repeated first as many as possible, as the students can reach their understanding. Moreover, teaching or practicing listening will be successful to improve the students’ ability in listening comprehension if the activities in it are done in enjoyable and fun way. Finally, it can be a very interesting website to visit.

  62. I'm Nurul Khasanah and my email address is nurul4khasanah@gmail.com. The webinar section 16.1 is very fun and interesting. It offers teachers a lot of strategies and tips in creating listening tasks or activities. I really enjoy all of the presentations but I love Kevin's presentation the most. He offers some brilliant tips that never been thought before. He said that, “Teacher should see how much students understand throughout listening test,” I agree, but too bad for us to miss this very important thing in our teaching class. Not all of teacher aware or even try to understand their students’ different level of understanding and prefer to think that “this listening task is easy for their students”. So, then I found his creation of some brilliant tips are very helpful to ease student in understanding the listening tasks or activities, even make it more fun and exciting. Teaching in class does not mean have to be formal by very serious stuffs. I agree with Kevin that teachers can or have to put some fun stuff in order to attract their attention and focus. Whilst fun does not mean that teachers could not put any complicated stuffs either. When listening gets to be complicated, he offers us drawing dictation which I think is very genius way. I guess that this way stimulates students to be more creative and also balances their left brain for not only focus on words they should catch but also encourages their right brain works by drawing, and it is also helpful for memorising every single “complicated” stuffs they listened to. Put a song or a piece of movie is also recommended by him, no complain that his ideas are very fresh in teaching technique. From all of those, I consider that creating a fun activity to kill boredom in class is also a thing that should be counted in teaching technique. Go making a good change!

The heading is Spoken and its Role in the English Language Classroom. It stated that Spoken grammar consists of the features of language that allow speakers to communicate in real-time, face-to-face situations. Regarding this topic, it is leading information for all of novices who are studying English for Second Language especially to learn English in term of conversation. It gives us knowledge on how to do conversing as natural as the native speaker. Usually non-native speakers have tried hard to speak like a native speaker especially in English classroom, but indeed it need hard work to do so. Spoken English are indeed different with the written English. The spoken English are more spontaneous and unplanned. There are some specific features belong to Spoken grammar namely, ellipsis, heads, tails, backchannels, Phrasal Chunks, and fillers. I’m studying Second Language Acquisition in which the lesson related to this spoken grammar heading. I can enrich my knowledge about this spoken grammar role in English classroom. I send my gratitude to this webinar.

The first discussion was about how written and spoken differ each other. After that, it discussed about what is the spoken grammar and the spoken grammar contains 6 specific features: ellipsis, heads, tails, fillers, backchannels, and phrasal chunks. We as teacher in the future must teach our students spoken grammar because it can help them increasing their spoken fluency and communicative abilities. The materials for teaching spoken grammar must be authentic because it is not covered well in textbooks. The suggested source are: Radio Interviews, Talk Shows, and Online Videos.

The second webinar 16.2 explained about Spoken Grammar and its Role in the English Language Classroom. This topic is very useful for me as a student of the English education study program that can help me to improve my ability in teaching spoken grammar to my students. We can say that speaking is an activity that quiet difficult to be practiced for students even ourselves. Because speaking is Spontaneous, unplanned, produced in Real-Time, no opportunity for editing, occurs face-to-face, interactive with immediate feedback from listener, and temporary. So, why we should teach spoken grammar is to help students cope with processing information and communicating in real-time, perform important interactive, social, and communicative functions, increase students’ spoken fluency and communicative abilities. The authentic materials to teach spoken grammar is helpful students to speak as natural as possible, so they use the natural expression of the native English speakers. From this topic I can get the explanation not only about 6 specific features of spoken grammar : ellipsis, heads, tails, fillers, back channels, and phrasal chunks but the examples of the teaching activity of spoken grammar.

However, the explanation is focus on Spoken Grammar. In my opinion, it is difficult when it comes to grammar. Spoken and Written grammar are quite different. The difference between spoken and written language is also explained at Grammar, Meaning and Discourse class. Therefore, watching webinar 16.2 is very helpful to me. The second webinar is about Spoken Grammar and its Role in the English Language Classroom. The topics for this course are spoken vs. written english, what spoken grammar is, questions about spoken grammar, and activities for teaching spoken grammar. We need to study spoken grammar to increase spoken fluently. Although we converse/communicate with other, the using of grammar is needed. Sometimes I heard some people say, it doesn’t need grammar when we communicate/converse with others. It is totally wrong, by using grammar our speaking English become fluently, our speaking as natural as native. The part that I like from this course are about Ellipsis, Heads, Tails, Fillers, Backchannels, Phrasal Chunks. I understand more about that part by explanation and exercises.
Thanks very much for this course, because it is actually same with the material in GMD course, so my knowledge is more complete.

I think it is very helpful scenarios to prevent students get the look of the blank stare in teaching, in order to deepen the knowledge or lesson. I notice that there is a strategy to make students understand the teachers’ ideas with more formulaic but cool. I think this strategy will easier to be understood rather than teaching by talking too much which leads the students to misunderstanding. Instead of that, the students do not need to think out loud either. It’s genius!

  111. I’m Nurul Khasanah and my email address is nurul4khasanah@gmail.com. I think the webinar section 16.4 is so much fun. It talks about cultural workshop as the way to acquire English language. Cleverly, it uses music especially rock and roll music as the role model of teaching language acquisition. As it defines that teachers are entertainers and motivational speakers, I think it works. Besides use music, make some jokes in teaching is also required in order to increase the students’ motivation, here teacher as entertainer is working. I agree when Tim says that teachers as agents of social responsibility and change. In order to be agent of change so teachers have to be able to become guides who promote critical thinking and help them recognize cultural differences, in addition to stimulate intellectual curiosity. From this I can say that the students’ attitudes depend on their own teachers, because however, teacher indirectly shapes the character of the students in the way they teach, especially in their roles as agents of change. I think these things should be applied in order to shape students’ characters.

Not only it can avoid such a boring way in teaching it also able to trigger the students' curiosity on cultural diversity. This kind of teaching method are enjoyable and interactive to break the same routine in teaching language as well as learning history of rock and roll as change of view and different approach in learning language. Overall, it will greatly helps the teacher to gain the students' interests during class. I will look forward to the next webinar session.

The topics in Webinar 16.2 are talking about spoken vs. written English, the spoken grammar, questions about spoken grammar, and activities for teaching spoken grammar.

I really appreciate and like the materials. It sounds interesting for me to gain the knowledge about grammar because the speaker was not only just giving the daily conversation examples but also some games to attract the audience's attention.
She focused on explaining the ellipsis, the head, the tail, the filler, the backchannel, the phrasal chunk.

This online activity (Webinar 16.3) is very undoubtedly useful because it talks about a teaching variation to make teachers and students learn and work together, but of course it still focuses on the student-learning-center, so it may use the CLT as the method.

Actually, the Gradual Release of Responsibility in Mind needs the appropriate time, so it makes teachers to manage the teaching time effectively. In my opinion, I think that teachers are going to focus on teaching the students step by step to learn the simplest materials until the complex materials both in group works and individual works.

The stages of GRR are :
    1. The Focus Lesson (I Do)
    2. The Guided Lesson (We Do Together)
    3. The Collaborative Learning (You Do Together)
    4. The Independent Practice (You Do Alone)

The GRR is more likely to help teachers to vary their teaching style to improve their students' abilities to comprehend. Therefore, I want to emphasize that the more teachers practice withe them, the more they become competent and become friends. In the end, there is a reflection time to make sure that the students clearly understand.

It is a great and creative style, I think.
A lot of thanks to webinar

This online activity (Webinar 16.4) is done nicely cool. The way it is explained is very attractive. I have to say that I like it.

Mostly, it talks about the content-based workshop, but it uses the Rock-and-Roll explanation that makes me interested. In addition, it explains about the way how to be a teacher who can promote critical learning, help students recognize cultural differences, and stimulate their curiosity.
However, the students' motivation is also the factor to make them interested in involving the learning process.

In this case, teachers mostly use the music (especially rock music) as the media. It is absolutely to attract their attention. Also, the teachers should break the daily boring activities in learning. Let the process begin freely, but still under his/her control.
In the end, I do like the way it attracts the students, but the consequence is that teachers should manage the time, the materials, the media, and the students.

This online activity (Webinar 16.5) is pretty good. It introduces FORUM to teach English to the students as the media to share the information.
As we know, a forum is very useful IF the members are active to response the information which has been shared.
I think, that it may not give any significant effects if the members are passive, so teachers should work extra hard to deal with the students' interests.
However, actually in this webinar, the forum is for teachers all over the world, so they can share anything that they want such as the problems to be discussed, new techniques, new creative learning styles, and other modern media.
As the example, my teacher, Mrs. Alief Noor Farida, teaches her students using friendly manner, so her students feel comfortable and they are not affraid to ask her many questions.
If the students feel comfortable, we exactly know that they will learn better to get the knowledge.

So far, it is pretty awesome sharing. Have a good job. Thanks to webinar.

  161. My name is Agustina. My email address is agustinaorange676@gmail.com. After I attended the second webinar point 16.2. The heading is Spoken and its Role in the English Language Classroom. I learned that spoken grammar is very useful in doing the conversation. Why? It is because spoken grammar consists of the features of language that allow speakers to communicate in real-time, face-to-face situations. There are some specific features belong to Spoken grammar namely, ellipsis, heads, tails, back channels, Phrasal Chunks, and fillers. Sometimes, when we try to speak foreign language, it doesn’t sound natural, so it is clear that we should practice more so that we can sound more natural.

  184. I'm Nurul Khasanah and my email address is nurul4khasanah@gmail.com. The webinar section 16.5 is splendid. It talks about the new forum in teaching English. The purposes of new forum are to give the new contents of forum, to highlight professional development, and to demonstrate how to get the most out of forum. Besides, this section also performs teaching techniques which are more fun than serious, but still to be used as a professional development for learners, such as guided meditation in English language classroom and speed drawing to vocabulary retention. I think the second idea about speed drawing to vocabulary retention is genius because it can be used to gain learners’ vocabulary whether the simple one even for the complex one, as well as to express students’ ideas. Another fascinating idea is ‘Nouns on the Job Market: An Approach for recognising Noun Position Errors’ a technique for helping students to recognise grammar error, in specifically make sure the nouns in their position in a sentence. Although this one is rare but I think it should be tried because go to market is a daily activity, if we apply this daily, automatically we learn grammar daily. Great ideas!

The goals are to introduce the new contents of FORUM, highlight professional development, and demonstrate how to get the most out of FORUM. I think Forum is like a kind of forum of English teaching. It has many sections as we can see in the web: articles, teaching techniques to reader’s guide.
Teaching techniques as one of the section is tend to manage the articles that should be focus on one technique, fairly short (between 500 and 2000 word) and describe a specific technique and give clear examples.
Try This! As the one and the last section presents a kind of exercise like listening and logic which the PowerPoint gives us slides to help us.
Overall, this seminar gives many benefits especially for people who want to be a teacher. Thank you

The topic really help me to improve my understanding about grammar especially in spoken form. This is second class of webinar (16.2) that I follow. It is about the spoken grammar. I learned many things about the difference of spoken and written grammar and also the usage of spoken grammar in the formal or less-formal situational context. The grammar that we use in spoken should be different with the written one. In this class I got the lesson of how to choose the right grammar in the right context. There is also the styles of spoken grammar that we can use in difference situation whether it is formal or less-formal.
After following the lesson, I have new point of view that in using grammar we should consider the context whether it is written/spoken context or formal or less-formal context.
