A Progress in Week 2

    At the beginning of this week 2 I worked hard to do all assignments given by the Webskills Fall 2013 program. I did Web searching by reviewing the suggested different search engines (from noodletools), formulated the ABCD objective, and designed the Project Plan for my classes. Web searching through search engines was the first challenging assignment for me to do and made me busy to find out the appropriate sites for my topics "Translation studies". Some search engines provide the topics I search and some other do not. I tried to use 'bing site" (www.bing.com), it provides the facilities like "Google". I suggested my students to use that web. Other interesting and important search engines are http://www.freetranslation.com, http://www.translation-assistant.com, and http://betterworldbooks.com. I learned more from those search engines. I tried to apply all sites that are appropriate for my classess.The second challenging assignment I did this week was designing the ABCD objective for my translation classes. The ABCD model for behavioral objectives is very effective for designing the learning objectives for our classroom. I set the fifth-semester English translation students as the Audience (A), the interactive students' translation capability as the Behavior (B), the Blog-based teaching approach as the Condition (C), and the total daily assessment from the tutor as the Degree (D). That is all I did in the half of week 2. It was an interesting and challenging job.

    I notice that the variety of our backgrounds and specialities brings even more information than what we receive from the course itself ! That's great !

    1. Thank you for your site given to me, Christine. I visited www.wordreference.com, it was successful. It is a very good online-machine translator I know from you, but there is no a slot for translating other texts into Indonesian language yet, or vice versa. However, it is a very good search engine for me to learn other languages by trying to translate a text of one language to another. Thanks for your kindness.

    I have always looked into your blog. It is really interesting. I dare not asking for your assistance in advancing my blog, as mine is not professional. You may be used to it because I can see your design with colorful picture.

    Your week 2 assignment is great I can say. You have done quickly and nicely. Many sites you have consulted. It means that you are eager to learn. Your topic in "translation studies", I would suggest "scholar.google.com" since I have learned it recently. I like this site because it there are many article posted academically and they are trusted. There are two links you can go. First, The translation studies reader, L Venuti-2012-books.google.com. Second, Introducing translation studies: theories and application, J Munday -2008- books.google.com. Third, Translation studies: an integration approach, M Snell-Hornby -1998 -books.google.com. I hope these will be helpful for your search.

      Thanks for your attention and appreciation. Yes, I usually use a blog for a tool and medium for communicating with my friends and my students. I always post some information to my friends or give my students an assignment. Exactly I have another blog (http://www.duniaterjemahunnes.blogspot.com/) and a personal web (http://duniaterjemah.com/) beside the blog I have for Webskills UO AEI Fall 2013, for sending some information or news to my students. They can see my postings or tasks for them to do or articles to see. You can visit my sites sometimes. Oh, by the way, thanks for giving me a very good site (scholar.google.com) for me to see some e-books, particularly some e-books of translation studies. I know that this site is for academicians, so in Indonesian language it is called "Google.cendikia.com". 'Cendikia" means "Scholar". From your hunting way of many books of translation studies, I think you are more professional than I am at translation studies, because you have many references of translation e-books.   3. Hi Rudi, I'm happy to hear that you're putting into practice what we're learning in this course. It was a great idea to give your students the opportunity of creating their own academic blog. "Translation" is not my field so I really find your posts interesting. Keep on posting about your students.

      Thanks for your attention and response. You try to work hard for achieving your idea and so do I. This Webskills program is very interesting and important for me to follow. I can share experience and knowledge with very good friends and professional people in the world. I get many valuable information about the things that are very useful for my occupation, such as a bunch of search engines that I have not known before, ways of communicating ideas, the ABCD model of making behavioral objectives, making interactive and reflective blogs, etc. Once again thank you for your attention.     Your blog is really impressive. I see that you work really hard, with enthusiasm and it makes me think that you are a very good teacher. You teach translation, so you recommend many interesting sites. I don't deal with translation, but I will recommend your sites to my students.

    In my country students are allowed to use dictionaries while doing reading comprehension but Israeli Ministry of Education doesn not include translation as a compulsory part of the program. Nevertheless, outstanding students can take an extra exam (translation from English into Hebrew) and get 2 more points in their Matriculations. They take this exam without any dictionaries, of course. It requires a very high level of English, so very very few students decide to take this exam.

    Your ABCD model of making behavioral objectives is great, too. God luck.
