Reflection on Week 1 of Web Skills Projects

A day after the opening of E-Teaching Program, I directly asked my students to involve in this activity. I instructed them to have an academic blog for each. Exactly each of them has a blog but not the academic one. It means that their blog is just for fun; for showing their leisure activities, such as just for displaying photos or writing romantic words. They have it for fun, so I assigned them to make a new one for academic purposes, especially for Translation Studies in the classroom.
Now they have an academic blog for posting their assignments or homework given by me. I plan to post them assignments of translating projects, then they translate the text I display on my blog posting. In my mind this is a way of the interactive web application in teaching and learning process. The students themselves are very enthusiastic to respond this program. I hope this program can enlighten and enhance the teaching and learning process and product in the future of educational world.

  1. Hi Rudi,
That’s a very smart idea to get your students envolved in the experience of using web skills through your project which is inspiring for other teachers as well. But as I can see that you teach a small class with students of no more than 25 I guess which is not the same case in other classes in some parts of the world like our classes of 60 students. Although it’s a great idea, it sounds impossible for such classes!
    What do you think guys?

    1. That's right, Sarah.
My classes I teach are small classes because we try to manage small ones in order to cover teaching and learning process better, since my university has many buildings with many rooms. But, don't worry with your large classes, we can manage them into small groups. You can monitor their activities group by group after you assign them, for examples, reading texts or writing a genre of academic text. You can use offline or online lesson materials, so they can focus on their activities and we just see, ask them, answer their problems and do such reflection after studying the lessons. That's very simple one, I think.

  2. Rudy, that sounds amaing that now each of your student has his own blog and you can monitor their activities through the central computer. Do they always work in small groups and you monitor each of them? How do they do their homework, only workpages offline, or sometimes online too? So they can send you emails or use the special class net. I agree that it is very simple and works well.

    1. Dear Julia,
You can see what I have done with my students in this blog. You click the assignment slot that shows my instruction to the students of mine. Then, in the Leaner Blogs I list some of my own students' blog. But they have not done their work because that assignment has been sent today. If they did their work, I could see their job through their own blogs. Thanks

  3. I have a tutor blog for me to assign my students to do their homework. I post the news and ask students to visit the assignment slot on my blog (See the tutor blog of mine: www.duniaterjemah.com). Then, I ask them to do their works and post them into their own blog. Finally I check their work on their own blog one by one. I know their blogs because I attach them on my links. Thanks

  5. Hi Hartono,
That’s an extraordinarily stylish initiative. Really it’s one of the grand design for class.
